You know... I think this idea totally blows. But since it seems like I'm the only one who thinks so, and I do respect the opinions of my peers (all of yous), I can consense to this if they do it... but I still don't like it.

I agree too... I know that many will disagree here, but it would be cool if you had a hunger meter that dwindled down and would result in loss of life after like 2 game hours of not eating. We could hunt wild animals (many in all zones) or fish to take care of it.... then perhaps we could also sell dried meat and fish in town.

I suggested this too in my Player Incentives Post:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=32510

I've finished all the missions and am playing through the game a second time, but it's not as fun. PvP is alright at times, but meh, I need something to do when I'm waiting around. Like today in Fissure of Woe, we took a break so people could go to the bathroom, get something to snack on, etc.. and all I could do was /dance in the meanwhile. In other games, that would be when I would craft to pass the time.

Sir Maddox has a good idea, with more NPC interaction, and more of a social atmosphere in towns. That would definitely help. I'd like to see more side activities too, and while exploring can kind of be considered one.. what do you do once you've explored every inch of the map that's available?

suzumebachi, I'd like fishing too. In my other thread, I mention that as long as the fishing wasn't some way to create unfair advantages or become a huge money maker (read: fishing bots), then it's cool. I like the idea of having fishing, with each fish only worth 1g at the merchant or so.. but eating the raw fish could cause you to do physical emotes like wobble around with an upset stomach lol. Also, some sort of mini-side quest where, if you catch one of each fish, then you get some kind of badge from an NPC, or a decorative Fishing Hat that you can wear (but has no armor stats). But that sounds like a great idea you've mentioned, salvaging them for bones and scales, lol! It'd totally fit in with the game.

Ultimate Gaara: I like the snowman building idea, too! And maybe have snowball fights, although that might be harder to implement. Maybe falling down to make snowangels?

And Manadar -- defintely, crafting should be implented but 100% fair & optional!

I once had an idea for setting up camp (ie. tent and bonfire) in the wild... it was met with thunderous and resounding negativity and flaming... People kept assuming that the reason was to have a mid-zone waypoint when actually the waypoint attachment was just a justification when all that really mattered was having "more relaxing things to do."

If there is fishing I want sunbathing too.
Of course with bikinis and swimsuits and shorts.
Fisherman's Haven would be perfect for it.

Btw. there shouldn't be an emote for sitting only. What about sleeping and lying on the ground and stuff like that?

I've only ever played one other MMORPG and that had a great mining system. You could mine metal ore and refine it into ingots when back in town.
You could also mine for minerals and crystals and refine those too.

If that game didn't swallow so much real cash, i would still be playing it. However, once i breached the $500 boundary, i had to get out of there.

I would like to see mining, crafting, fishing and woodcutting in GW.

optional, fun, and with the possibility to make some cash..I would be for it.
If it becomes bot magnets, noobs selling "rare GODLY gold fish for 10K!", extra strong wood planks from secret tree farm area...you get the idea....then it needs to be reworked.

True... they would have to make it:

a) less profitable to sell fish, meat or wood than to farm

or

b) necessary to do it to survive. So a bot would die eventually while fishing if they didn't stop to eat.

or

c) make it easier to go out and catch fish, kill game, chop trees yourself than to spend gold on it (but this would reduce the option to have it as a business, which would also be fun)

I'm just going to have to say this in defense of the game designers, but this game is not ment to be an "offical RPG" its suppose to be more of a hack and slash type of game based around the PvP and ladder.

Crafting, mining, etc, etc, are all good in other games, but this is not what Guild Wars is ment for. Mainly groups fighting one another in a fun battle of wits and challenges. Adding in things like crafting or the consuming time to go and find these materials causes one of their main target audience, the casual gamer, to become greatly turned off.

Why is that? Well that gamer won't have access to these special crafted items, or perhaps even the money to buy them if they are able to. Even if they could buy them, it might only be one every so often in a blue moon depending on prices and whatnot. The best way around this is so that crafted items are worth almost nothing, and are able to have at the MOST, half of the stats that a normal item of that type could have.

If anything, they will be adding a lot of money sinks into the game probley after a month or more since everyone and their grandma is rich if they have been playing long enough. These money sinks might make the game a little less dull for you who want something else to do. Keep in mind, you can BUY all of those crafting materials from the odd NPC's. So techinally, your mining is killing creatures. If creatures never dropped these items or money to slavage or buy the items, then yes, they would have to bring in a mining system.

Horizons? Good game, LoL. From when it started, I was one of the only Guardians out there in the world. The endless tells of "Is the Guardian class any good?" since it couldn't use any heavy armor and most of its abilities people said were lacking, I couldn't figure out how they knew this with only a total of 10 in the entire game who hardly were leveled high enough to do anything good. Those ablities were the best ever. =) I almost felt like reinstalling it and playing for another couple of months recently. [/end off-topic]

why should a game be "meant for" something? GTA blurs the line between racing and shooter (with a touch of rpg). Black and White 2 blurs the line between city building, RTS and god. GW blurs the line between RPG and team-based combat...

We need more lines blurred and less drawn

yeah, we do need to be carefull about farming (as in farmer giles and his cows and his fishing rod ^^) and harvesting stuff.

everyone seems to hate the nerfing of the drudge farming (rush in, open chest, rince+ repeat), so why not give people that *want* to do the repetative stuff....something repetative to do that ISNT the druge farming

that is what crafting is, realy, and adding it as a seperate, additional content, perhaps a pay to download thing, rather than as a buy in stores disk.

and i definately want food and drink and wepons and clothes (not armours) and presents (like ring and necklaces amd hair ornaments..i saw lovely leaf shaped hair bands the rangers get, and i want some ^^) to be craftable ^^
what lady is going to say yes to an in game marrage when the warrior offers her a wilted flower thats two years old (gwens faves).

if the crafted items are not as good as the drops, can only be sold and bought by players and the crafting merchant, and keep the druge farmers out of our hair cause we are all crafting like mad, then whats the worry?
and, if you dont want to craft yourself, but like the stuff, get the extra content and just *buy* the stuff in game the lasy way heheh

Come to think of it... wouldn't that just wipe the whole problem of bots all together?

Or am I just being blissfully ignorant..

People have talked about their "acting guild" and performing plays in major centers like Ascalon City and Lion's Arch. Ostensibly, in one of the upcoming content additions, the "watch the arena" stuff is going to be added. Wouldn't it be terrific if they made it so that it could also be used outside the arena and let the actors' play be viewed by a large audience?

Most of these ideas are very good. There are just two that I don't like:
1. Needing to eat to survive. This would become very tedious - video games are supposed to abstract away from boring parts of life. What's next - having to spend 1/3 of the game sleeping?
2. Crafting. One of the reasons this game doesn't have the horrible inflation seem in most MMOs is the fact that having to buy armor provides a good money sink. Maybe you could craft materials into other materials (like Daved does), but that would be as far as I'd go.

The hunger thing wouldn't bother bots, as it can easily be programmed in for them to eat whatever food every hour or whatever.

I'll agree with Ending here, Guild Wars really wasn't made to be that kind of a game. None of you came to Guild Wars expecting to play The Sims. You all came here for the PvP and PvE content that was being raved about by your friends for months during the BWE(Or not, I can be wrong once in a while).

There are other games that offer random activities, and they are there to seem to make the game seem to have a bit more realistic atmosphere. And I doubt that any of those games are as instanced as Guild Wars is. With all of the separation between players you would hardly see anyone doing those fun activities. So you might as well just pretend you are doing them, because no one but you and your party will notice.
